PRESIDENT

Mr. Adrian Herrera

Adrian is a second-generation Chicano and was born and raised in El Paso, TX. After high school, he attended New Mexico State University for his core courses but transferred and completed his BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2015 from the University of Texas at El Paso. During the pursue of his BS, Adrian pushed for summer internships and co-ops within the U.S. Department of Defense. He gained insight and experience by working alongside the U.S. Army Research Laboratory designing data acquisition systems at White Sands Missile Range, NM. He later began working with the U.S. Center for Countermeasures doing spectrograph analysis, projectile physics and laser communications. In 2016, Adrian was offered a position as a Patent Examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Detroit, MI. There he was able to attend a federal training program on the regulations of intellectual law and later examined software methods for patent protection. Adrian resigned from that position on good terms to be closer to his wife in Ventura, California who was pregnant and almost due to deliver at that time. Adrian was offered a new position at the Air Force Technical Applications Center, Patrick Space Force Base, FL when his daughter was 5 months old, which brought him to Cocoa Beach in late 2017. On a promise to the U.S. Government, he offered a year-for-a-year to earn his MS in Systems Engineering-Human Factors from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 2020. He is currently monitoring nuclear treaties of all applicable signatory countries. His SHPE goal is to share what he knows, to learn what he does not know, and to teach what we all know together.

Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience in multiple industries including Oil and Gas, Automotive Repair, Aerospace and Defense, and most recently Ride and Show/Themed Entertainment with Universal Creative.  After managing multiple projects as an Engineer, he decided to continue growing in this space and in 2019, completed a Graduate Certificate program in Project Management. In his pursuit of continued growth, he acquired his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in 2020.  Alberto is currently a Project Manager at Thermal Tech, where he supports the inside and outside sales teams.  Having been so fortunate to work with great mentors throughout his career, Alberto is eager to pay it forward.  He is looking forward to a more active role in SHPE and helping the organization grow and serve our community.
